NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans (10-14, 4-5 Southland) took the opening set of the match and hung in against Sam Houston State (14-5, 6-1 Southland), but the Bearkats took the match 3-1 (25-20, 18-25, 21-25, 18-25) Saturday afternoon in the Human Performance Center.
Blessing Dunn finished with her tenth double-double of the year after recording 10 kills and 14 digs.
Kaitlyn Grice added eight kills and six blocks. And
Sarah Thomas and
Amanda Wurster combined to dish out 38 assists.
SET ONE
Both teams were evenly matched in the early going, but the Privateers used a 5-0 run to take their first substantial lead of the set at 12-8 and force a Bearkat timeout. Moments later, the Privateers would score the final three points of the set and take a 1-0 lead with a 25-20 set win.
Kyra Hunter finished the set with five kills. UNO had three aces in the set and held Sam Houston to .121 hitting.
SET TWO
Just like in set one, set two was evenly matched until Sam Houston took a 16-12 lead. But the Privateers battled back to tie the game at 16 highlighted by a pair of kills from Hunter and Grice and a pair of errors from the Bearkats. Unfortunately, the Kats took set two 25-18 to even things up at 1-1.
SET THREE
Sam Houston dominated set three hitting .257 and taking a 2-1 lead with a 25-21 set three win.
SET FOUR
The Bearkats looked dominate early going up 10-7 early, but UNO would tie the set and take the lead at 11-10 on a pair of blocks by Grice and Vega. But Sam Houston took the match with 25-18set four win.

UNO is back Thursday, October 18 when it takes on the LadyJacks of Stephen F. Austin in Shelton Gym at 6:30 p.m.
