Nacogdoches, Texas – The University of New Orleans (10-15, 4-6 Southland) took the top team in the conference in the form of Stephen F. Austin (22-2, 9-0 Southland), but the Lady Jacks took the match 3-1 (20-25, 25-18, 18-25, 17-25) Thursday evening in Shelton Gym.
Blessing Dunn recorded 11 kills and 15 digs for her eleventh double-double of the year.
Kaitlyn Grice added seven kills and seven blocks and
Brianna Vega added eight kills and 16 digs.
Kyra Hunter added nine kills of her own.
Sarah Thomas and
Amanda Wurster had 16 assists apiece.
SET ONE
The Lady Jacks got out to an early 10-4 lead. But UNO would battle back to make it and 18-15 game later in the set highlighted by a pair of kills from Rand and Hunter. But SFA took the opening set 25-20.
SET TWO
The teams traded points and were tied at six-all, but the Privateers would use a pair of runs to open up a 13-6 lead highlighted by a pair of kills and a service ace from Vega. And a few moments later UNO took the set 25-18 and evened things up at 1-1.
Hunter finished the set with four kills as New Orleans held the Lady Jacks to .024 hitting.
SET THREE
SFA had the advantage early in the set going up 7-6 and opened up a three-point lead shortly after. But UNO would erase the SFA lead and take its first lead at 13-12 on a kill from Vega. But the Lady Jack made an adjustment and took set three 25-18 to regain a 2-1 lead in the match.
SET FOUR
Stephen F. Austin never trailed in the set and only allowed UNO to get as close as one point as they took set four 25-17 and the match 3-1
NEXT UP
New Orleans will make the trip to Conway, Arkansas to take on the Sugar Bears of Central Arkansas Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Prince Center.
