SHANIA WOODS AND KAYLA THOMAS LEAD UNO TO VICTORY OVER TRINITY BAPTIST COLLEGE

New Orleans- Thanks to the play of Shania Woods and Kayla Thomas, who combined for 37 points and 20 rebounds, the University of New Orleans registered an easy win over the Eagles of Trinity Baptist College, 93-38, Saturday at Lakefront Arena.

Woods, a senior from Houston, Texas, had 20 points and 9 rebounds in 21 minutes of play as she moved into the top ten all-time among UNO rebounders.  Thomas, a red-shirt sophomore from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, recorded the first double-double of her UNO career with 17 points and 11 rebounds in only 15 minutes of action.  She also recorded a team-high 2 blocks.
"I'm very excited about Shania's play and the fact that she's moved into the top ten in rebounds at UNO, said head coach Keeshawn Davenport.  "And Kayla's efficiency was great with a double-double in only 15 minutes.  This is her first game with only one foul because she has already fouled out of two games. I keep telling her we need her on the court."

The Privateers (2-1)were in control from the start, scoring the first 18 points of the game.  The Eagles from Jacksonville, Florida scored their first points at the 2:59 mark of the first period that closed with a 22-point New Orleans lead, 28-6.

New Orleans outscored Trinity Baptist 22-8 in the second quarter as Woods, contributed 11 points and 3 boards during the period.  UNO took a 50-14 lead into intermission.

New Orleans led 67-33 after three quarters, however Trinity Baptist outscored the Privateers during the third, 19-17.

"I don't like the third-quarter woes we are experiencing this season.  I don't like the way we are coming out of the locker room, we have to change that," said Davenport.

The home team grabbed 22 rebounds against the shorter Eagles in the fourth and final period to end the game with a 65-37 advantage in that department as they cruised to victory number two of the season.

"We certainly wanted to concentrate on getting paint-points between post-ups and lay-ups," said Davenport.  "When you have such a good size advantage that has to be your first look to go inside and take advantage of it."

Sophomore guard Jada Duncantell had 14 points, 3 assists and a team-high 4 steals.  Junior center Whitley Larry celebrated her birthday with 4 points, a game-high 12 rebounds and 2 steals.  Alyssa Quixley hit 3-of-6 three-pointers for a total of 9 points as every Privateers who played scored at least three points.

Annalise Brisco paced the club in assists with a career-high 8 assists.
