Baton Rouge, La. –
Owen Magee hit his first homer of the season and the Privateers collected 10 hits on the night, but LSU scored eight runs between the sixth and seventh to defeat New Orleans 14-6 on Wednesday at Alex Box Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams traded three-run first innings to get the night off to a wild start. The Privateers started by getting the first two hitters aboard on a hit by pitch and a walk.
Cody Ducote and
Owen Magee followed with RBI singles as part of the early onslaught. LSU responded with a three-run inning of their own on a two-run triple by Antoine Duplantis and an RBI single by Hunter Feduccia.
LSU jumped back on top with a run on an RBI single in the second. Magee leveled the score back up for the Privateers with his first home run of the year, a solo shot to left that tie the game at 4-4 in the third inning.
New Orleans reassumed a narrow lead in the fifth on an RBI ground out by J.T. Mauldin. That was set up by back-to-back hits from Magee and
Jacob McFadden. The Privateers held the lead until the sixth when LSU posted four runs. Included in that stretch was consecutive two-out RBI hits by Daniel Cabrera and Austin Bain.
The Tigers added more cushion to the lead in the seventh, posting four more runs to extend their lead to 12-5.
NEXT UP
The Privateers will host the Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic starting on Friday when the take on Ball State. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. at Maestri Field.
