Privateers Collect Nine Hits in Mid-week Loss to Nationally Ranked Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss – Pearce Howard and Beau Bratton collected two hits apiece, but it was not enough as the University of New Orleans (9-12) fell to #5 Ole Miss (20-2) 9-4 Tuesday morning at Swayze Field.
 
Mississippi starter Houston Roth (3-0) earned the win after tossing 5.0 innings allowing three runs on five hits and striking out seven.
 
New Orleans starter Rafe Schindler (1-1) was tagged with the loss after only going 1.1 inning after giving up three runs (two unearned).
 
Howard led the way for the Privateers going 2-4 with a triple, a RBI, and a run scored. Bratton add two hits and a ribbie. Owen Magee, Jacob McFadden, and Cody Ducote recorded a hit in the game.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rebels broke things open in the second scoring three runs on one hit, on a pair of Privateer miscues. They added one more in the third on the homer by Dillard for a 4-0 lead
 
UNO got on the board in the fourth after Magee led off the inning with a single, and three batters later came home on Ducote's RBI single to trail 4-1.
 
Ole Miss extended its lead to seven in the fourth after a three run triple and a RBI double for an 8-1 advantage.
 
The Privateers got a couple of runs back in the fifth on the RBI triple by Howard and the RBI single by Bratton for a 8-3 deficit.
 
Ole Miss added one more in the seventh for a 9-3 lead.
 
New Orleans closed the gap to five on John Thomas Mauldin pinch hit homer, his first homer of the season, to trail 9-4
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The Privateers get back to Southland Conference play as they welcome Central Arkansas to Maestri Field for a three games set. First pitch on Friday is slated for 6:30 p.m.
