Baseball Falls in Extras in Series Opener 4-2

NEW ORLEANS – For the fourth time in five games, the University of New Orleans (9-13, 2-5 Southland) tallied ten or more hits but a two run tenth allowed Central Arkansas (13-9, 5-2 Southland) to take game one 4-2 in extra innings Friday evening at Maestri Field.

UCA reliever Ross Rogers (2-1) was credited with a win with just four pitches and one out. William Griffin (0-2) was tagged with loss after allowing the two 10th inning runs. Mark Moyer locked down his second save of the season after a scoreless inning of work.

Neither starter factored into the decision as southpaw Bryan Warzek struck out 10 Bears in 7.0 innings and UCA right-hander Tyler Gray allowed two runs in 8.1 innings and fanned nine.

Owen Magee and Cody Ducote tallied three hits apiece. Darren Willis, Pearce Howard, Beau Bratton, and Jay Robinson recorded a hit in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UNO took the early 1-0 lead in the first frame after Willis led off with a single and later, came home on the Bratton RBI single that snuck through the left side of the infield.

Central Arkansas knotted things at one with a solo shot in the third but New Orleans regained the lead on Magee's single in the bottom of the inning.

The Bears once again tied the game in the fifth and the pitching matched zeros as we went into extras. In the 10th, UCA scored on a two-run single to take the 4-2 victory Friday.

WHAT'S NEXT
New Orleans continues its series with Central Arkansas tomorrow at 2 p.m.
