NEW ORLEANS – Three players registered multi-hit games and the Privateers brought the tying run at the plate but the University of New Orleans (5-7) fell to Arkansas State University (5-3) 6-3 Sunday afternoon at Maestri Field.
Darren Willis,
Beau Bratton and
Pierce Howard tallied two hits apiece.
Cody Ducote and
Devin Morrill each reached base safely twice with a walk and base hit.
Arkansas State starter Peyton Culbertson (1-1) earned the win tossing 8.0 innings – giving up one run and striking out three
. Reeves Martin (0-1) was tagged with the loss after going 4.0 innings giving up four hits, three runs and striking out four. Jesse Kutzke earned his second save of the weekend and season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A-State scored the first runs of the game with a run in the first and one in the third for a 2-0 lead.
UNO got a run back in the fourth on back to back hits by Bratton and Ducote. Bratton later scored on
Pearce Howard's single that struck the third base bag to close the gap at 2-1.
The Red Wolves extended their led to 6-1 with a pair of runs in the fifth and the sixth.
The Privateers showed some fight in the ninth after Howard led off the inning with a single and two batters later, scored on a RBI groundout by
Jay Robinson. UNO added one more later in the inning and brought the tying run to the plate. A-State brought in its closer and Kutzke earned his second save of the season with the 6-3 win.

The Privateers welcomes Tulane to Masetri Field on Tuesday. The game will be televised on Cox Sports TV. First pitch is at 6:37 p.m.
