NEW ORLEANS – Collin Morrill went 4-for-5 with three runs from the leadoff spot and
Jared McKay picked up two base hits in the University of New Orleans' (17-22) 15-9 loss to #RV University of South Alabama (22-13) Wednesday evening at Maestri Field.
Morrill picked up the four singles and
Owen Magee added two hits and two runs.
Beau Bratton extended his hit streak to 10 and drove in 10,
Orynn Veillon drew two walks, doubled, scored two runs and drove in two but McKay highlighted the offense in his first start since March 10 (at Southeastern Louisiana). The left fielder drove in three, walked once and picked up two singles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
South Alabama was able to capitalize on two errors and walks, scoring seven in the leadoff inning. McKay and Howard drove in a run and an error got things rolling making it 7-3.
USA added a run in the second and one in the third. In the bottom frame, McKay drove in his second run of the game. In the fourth, Bratton's RBI ground out made it 9-5 and Veillon followed with an RBI single.
The Jaguars added four runs in the fifth and UNO responded with three in the sixth. Bratton singled up the middle, Howard's sacrifice fly and McKay's bases loaded walk made it 13-9.
South Alabama tacked on a run in the seventh and another in the ninth to split the season series 15-9.
WIN-LOSS RECORD
Christopher DeMayo (0-1) allowed seven runs – four earned – in 0.2 innings.
Rafael Martinez allowed just one hit and struck out three in 3.0 innings of work.
John Barr and
Rafe Schindler did not allow a run in 2.1 combined innings. Ryan Terry allowed four runs – three earned – in 3.0 innings. Zach Greene tossed 3.1 shutout innings to pick up the win, improving to 2-2.
