HOUSTON – Breanna Vega collected a career-high 20 kills in the University of New Orleans' (7-8, 1-0 Southland) 25-22, 24-26, 25-20, 25-21 win over Houston Baptist (7-8, 0-1 Southland) Thursday evening in Sharps Gym.
Vega added 10 digs for her third double-double of the season.
Kaitlyn Grice added 15 kills while
Blessing Dunn had 13 kills and 17 digs for her sixth double-double of the year.
Sarah Thomas tallied 50 assists in the win.
SET ONE
UNO was the aggressor early in the opening set with an early 10-8 lead, but Houston Baptist would not go away easy as they would tie the set nine times but could never take the lead from the Privateers. And eventually, New Orleans took set on 25-22.
SET TWO
The Privateers jumped out to a 10-5 lead early in the set, but the Huskies battled back and tied the game at 12. From there the team traded leads five times. Before an HBU kill by Mikayla Vivens and a UNO attack error to take the set 26-24 and tie the match at 1-1.
SET THREE
HBU came out firing, jumping out to a 5-0 lead early in the stanza. But the Blue and Silver used a 12-2 run to regain the lead at 12-7 and did not look back from there taking set three 25-20. Vega finished with five kills and Grice hit .667 in the set win.
SET FOUR
New Orleans was up by at least five points in the fourth set. HBU would tie the set twice, but the Privateers scored the final four points of the set to take the match 3-1 with a 25-21 set four win. Dunn recorded six kills in the decisive set.
NEXT UP
The Privateers head to the Coastal Bend as they take on Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Dugan Wellness Center.
