Volleyball Improves to 4-1 with Sweep of Lady Lions

NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans (10-9, 4-1 Southland) picked up its first conference sweep since November 5, 2015 (Lamar) with the 25-19, 25-23, 25-20 victory over Southeastern Louisiana University (1-14, 0-4 Southland) Saturday afternoon in the Human Performance Center.

Kyra Hunter and Brianna Vega led all players with 10 kills apiece, hitting .529 and .381, respectively. As a team, UNO hit .336. Vega added nine digs and a block. Kaitlyn Grice finished with four kills and five blocks.

SET ONE
A block by Grice and Amanda Wurster put UNO in front 19-15, forcing a Southeastern Louisiana timeout. The Privateers hit .375 en route to a 25-19 victory behind four kills by Vega and 3.0 total blocks, highlighted by Grice's three assisted stops. Blessing Dunn added two and Wurster collected 10 assists and a block. Breanna Crain picked up three digs in the opening set win.

SET TWO
The clubs traded points, but the Lady Lions were able to add a small cushion, going up 20-17. A Jordan Schumacher kill, Wurster ace and Schumacher kill, respectively, knotted the set at 20-all. Moments later, Hunter's kill and a SLU error secured the win for New Orleans, putting the Privateers in front 2-0 with the 25-23 win.

The close set featured 13 ties. The 2-0 lead was the first conference 2-0 edge since October 8, 2016 (vs. Southeastern Louisiana).

SET THREE
The Silver and Blue took a 9-5 edge, but the Lady Lions rallied to erase the UNO lead. However, a new Privateer run put the home club in front 14-11, highlighted by Rhyan Rand's and Vega block. Two kills by Hunter sandwiched by a Dunn kill made it 20-15 Privateers.

A Dunn kill clinched the three-match win streak for the Privateers as New Orleans improved to 4-1 in Southland Conference play with the 25-20 win.
