NEW ORLEANS – Lane Hindenburg collected 11 kills and three blocks in the 3-0 win over Jackson State University and
Kaitlyn Grice finished with eight kills, two aces and six blocks in the second match as the University of New Orleans (6-5) split Saturday in the Human Performance Center. The Privateers defeated JSU 25-16, 25-19, 25-20, but fell to Morgan State University (6-5) 25-19, 25-23, 25-16.
The Privateers went 3-1 in the New Orleans Invitational.
NEW ORLEANS DEFEATED JACKSON STATE 3-0
FIRST SET
New Orleans continued to hit at will, going 7-of-9 en route to a 9-4 lead, forcing a Lady Tigers timeout. The Privateers extended their lead to nine on a 5-0 run and closed the set with kills by
Maxine Walsh and JSU error to take the opener 25-16.
Jordan Schumacher, who earlier in the season made her first career start, tallied a solo block and two kills and
Lane Hindenburg led all players with four kills.
UNO finished hitting .320 and held Jackson State to -.065 hitting.
SECOND SET
The momentum remained in New Orleans' favor with the Privateers hitting .324 in the frame. Extending its lead to 18-11 before a timeout, UNO rode the balanced attack led by Hindenburg to a 25-19 win.
Heading into No. 3, Hindenburg posted 10 kills on 15 attempts, Schumacher and Hunter added four a piece and
Maxine Walsh tallied two.
THIRD SET
Jackson State took an early lead but the Privateer stormed back following Grice and Hunter kills. Despite the back and forth, New Orleans was able to pull away behind defensive stops to take the set and the match, 25-20, and win in straight sets for the third consecutive match.
INSIDE THE BOX
Hindenburg led all players with 11 kills and a .526 hitting percentage. The senior added three blocks. Omoghibo led with five total blocks and Grice added five kills and three assisted stops. Schumacher finished with seven kills and Hunter added five.
Sarah Thomas and
Amanda Wurster combined for 30 assists and
Alexa Spartz posted a match-high 11 digs in her collegiate debut.
MORGAN STATE DEFEATED NEW ORLEANS 3-0
FIRST SET
Hindenburg and Omoghibo teamed for a block to make it 3-0 UNO early, but the Lady Bears took an 11-6 lead. New Orleans stormed back in the midst of a 6-0 run, highlighted by a Hunter kill off a Morgan State defender. Morgan State secured the set one win 25-19.
SECOND SET
New Orleans led 10-7 early in the stanza and the clubs traded the lead before a service error and MSU kill gave the Lady Bears a 2-0 lead and 25-23 win.
Grice dominated the set with five kills and three blocks. Omoghibo added two blocks and two kills and Thomas collected seven assists.
THIRD SET
Morgan State clinched the win with a 25-16 third set W. Grice added two blocks in the third to finish with six in the latter match.
INSIDE THE BOX
Grice finished with eight kills, six blocks and two aces, Dunn added 10 digs and Thomas tallied 20 assists.
Zoe McBride led all players with 18 kills, Cristen Coryatt (16 kills) and Kalysia Bates (13 kills) rounded out the top hitters. Morgan State hit .350 in the win

New Orleans heads to the Sunshine State for the South Florida Classic September 14-15. The Privateers face Charlotte, host USF and North Dakota.
