ABILENE, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers (11-11, 4-4) started off their three-match Texas road trip with a 3-0 loss (24-14, 26-24, 25-10) to the Abilene Christian Wildcats (5-13, 3-5) on Tuesday evening at Moody Coliseum.
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Ehize Omoghibo led the Privateer offense with eight kills and had two block assists.
Shelby Pullins wound up with seven kills while
Sh'Diamond Holly had six kills and three blocks.
Andrea Nava recorded 16 digs and moved up to eighth place on the program's all-time digs list as she passed the 1,200-dig mark.
FIRST SET
The Wildcats controlled the action early on as they never trailed in the opening set. ACU hit .364 with just one error in 22 attempts. New Orleans had 12 errors on the attack in 42 attempts. The largest lead for the home side was the final score of the set which was 25-14.
SECOND SET
ACU again had a big run to start the set as they built up an early 8-1 lead. However, the Privateers clawed their way back in it as they eventually leveled the score at 16-16. The set was tied five more times from there. ACU had their first look at set point up 24-23, but an Omoghibo kill pushed extra rallies. However, the home side won the first two points out of the timeout to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
THIRD SET
New Orleans gained their first lead of the night early in the third set at 4-3 with an Omoghibo kill. Another kill pushed the Privateer lead to 5-3, but ACU responded with an 8-0 run. The Wildcats hit .333 in the final set as they finished off the victory.
NEXT UP
The Privateers will travel to San Antonio to face the UIW Cardinals. The match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
