Privateers Fall in Hard Fought Battle at Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers (11-13, 4-6) gave the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders (14-9, 7-3) all they could handle but fell 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 26-24) on Saturday afternoon at the Dugan Wellness Center.

STATISTICAL LEADERS
Ehize Omoghibo had 19 kills to lead the attack. Shelby Pullins had seven kills and four total blocks. Trinity Jackson added six kills and a team-high 15 digs. Sh'Diamond Holly had five kills in nine attempts. Andrea Nava had 12 digs. Lucie Pokorna had 29 assists and two aces. Amanda Wurster also added two service aces.

FIRST SET
The Islanders never trailed in the opening set but the Privateers pushed them throughout. Omoghibo had five first set kills in seven attempts, but a 4-0 Islander spurt that broke a 9-9 tie turned out to be the separation the home side needed. Facing set point, New Orleans staved it off three times before the Islanders eventually took the opener.

SECOND SET
Omoghibo continued her hot streak early in the set as the Privateers built a 14-9 lead and forced an Islanders timeout. However, A&M-Corpus Christi scored eight straight points including three service aces. However, the Privateers came back and surged to a 23-21 lead. Two Wurster aces contributed to the advantage, but Texas A&M-Corpus Christi scored the last four points to ultimately take the set.

THIRD SET
The set was tied 13 times and the lead changed hands seven times. The Privateers hit .306 and had eight more kills. New Orleans was serving with set point at 24-23, but a Kylie Filipiak kill pushed matters to extra rallies. The Islanders won the next two points to seal the match and their sixth consecutive victory.

NEXT UP
New Orleans will make the short trip to Hammond to face the Southeastern Lions on Oct. 29. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
