HAMMOND, La. – The New Orleans Privateers (11-14, 4-7) came up on the short end of a back-and-forth first set in a 3-0 loss (26-24, 25-9, 25-21) to the Southeastern Lady Lions (12-13, 6-5) on Tuesday at the University Center.
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Andrea Nava and
Trinity Jackson each had 12 digs to co-lead the team. Jackson also added five kills and two total blocks.
Ehize Omoghibo finished with a team-high nine kills.
Sh'Diamond Holly had eight kills.
Rhyan Rand had five kills and seven digs.
Shelby Pullins was in on three of the team's six blocks on the night.
FIRST SET
The set was tied nine times and the lead changed hands five times. The Privateers got two straight kills from Omoghibo to give New Orleans a look at set point, up 24-23. However, Southeastern answered to force extra rallies. A Lady Lions kill and ensuing block polished off the opening set at 26-24 for the home side.
SECOND SET
Southeastern jumped ahead and seized command early as they hit .409 for the set to go ahead 2-0. The Lady Lions scored 14 of the first 15 points in the set. The Privateers scored the next three points but could not overcome 11 attack errors.
THIRD SET
The third set started on level terms with the first ten rallies split evenly by both sides. Southeastern earned three straight points but the Privateers eventually drew back even on a Rand kill at 15-15. After briefly assuming the lead at 17-16, Southeastern surged in front for good with seven of the next eight points.
NEXT UP
The Privateers will face Northwestern State on Thursday at the Human Performance Center. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
