Privateers Defeated in Hotly Contested First Set, Match vs. Northwestern St.

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (11-15, 4-8) put a first set scare into the Northwestern Lady Demons (17-8, 9-2) but fell on the short end of a 3-0 decision (25-23, 25-10, 25-15) on Halloween night at the Human Performance Center.
 
MOVIN' ON UP
Andrea Nava continues to climb the program's all-time digs chart as she moved up to seventh after recording a team-high 12 digs on the night.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Ehize Omoghibo recorded a team-high nine kills and added three digs. Trinity Jackson and Sh'Diamond Holly each posted six kills. Lucie Pokorna had five kills along with 24 assists and Rhyan Rand added four kills along with nine digs. Valerie Vujnovich posted three kills and a block.
 
FIRST SET
The set was tied 12 times and the lead changed hands four times. New Orleans edged to a 17-13 lead after a Lady Demons attack error. Northwestern State came back to tie the set at 17-17 as the intensity picked up down the stretch. The Privateers gained a 23-21 edge late, but Northwestern State scored the last four points to close out the opening set in their favor.
 
SECOND SET
Northwestern State engineered their first big run of the set, a 6-1 spurt to grow their lead to 13-6. The Lady Demons were highly efficient on the set as they hit .500 in 28 attempts. The Lady Demons scored the last five points to close out the set.
 
THIRD SET
New Orleans fell behind 5-1 early and was playing catch up from there. Down 18-9 however, the Privateers threatened a rally with six consecutive points keyed by two kills each from Jackson and Holly. Northwestern State responded by scoring the last seven points with three aces in that stretch. Hannah Brister had 16 kills to lead the Lady Demons while Skylar Besch added nine in 14 attempts. Alexis Warren posted 13 digs.
 
NEXT UP
The Privateers will head to Lamar to face the Cardinals on Tuesday, Nov. 5. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
