Bratton's Walk-Off Clinches Series for Baseball

NEW ORLEANS – Another day, another late game rally: the New Orleans Privateers baseball team (21-22, 7-13) came back from three runs down and got a walk-off RBI single by Beau Bratton in a 7-6 win over the Lamar Cardinals (14-29, 6-17) on Saturday at Maestri Field.

The deciding inning started on a base hit by Pearce Howard. Two batters later, Gaige Howard singled to put two on. Then Bratton came up and bounced one through the right side of the infield for his second hit of the day. The win was the fifth walk-off victory for New Orleans this season.

WIN-LOSS
Mathew Oset (6-1) picked up the victory. He retired nine straight batters after the three-run eighth. Jack Dallas (0-6) took the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
New Orleans came back from a 6-3 deficit heading to the bottom of the eighth to force extra innings. One run scored on an RBI single from Salo Iza.

Trailing by two entering the ninth, the Privateers were down to their final strike twice. Darren Willis worked his way aboard on an error. Then Collin Morrill came up and cranked a two-run double to right-center on a 2-2 count to tie the game.

The Privateers got off to a strong start. After Turpin took 12 pitches to get through the top of the first, New Orleans plated three in one swing in the bottom of the frame. Iza and Pearce Howard got on via a walk and error respectively.

Woullard came up and cranked a line drive over the fence in left field for his second homer of the year to give the Privateers a 3-0 lead.

However, Blanchard settled in from there and allowed just three baserunners over the next five innings. The Cardinals first got on the board with a solo home run from Anthony Quirion in the third inning.

The score held at 3-1 until the seventh. Correa parked a solo homer to lead off the frame. A single from Logan Berlof followed by two walks loaded the bases. An RBI fielder's choice from Jorge Gutierrez brought in the tying run.

Correa's second homer of the day broke a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning. After a walk and a single ahead of him, the Cardinals shortstop cranked a home run to left field.

INSIDE THE BOX
Turpin went at least six innings for the ninth time in 11 starts. Iza drew his 31st walk of the season, a total that leads the Southland. Beau Bratton went 2-for-5 with the winning base hit and a triple, which was his second of the year and the first by a Privateer since Mar. 19.

NEXT UP
The series concludes with a 1 p.m. first pitch on Sunday at Maestri Field. Steven Swift gets the ball for New Orleans. Grason Wright is scheduled to start for Lamar.
