NEW ORLEANS – The Privateers began their season on a high note with a 3-1 victory (27-25, 25-18, 26-28, 25-18 over the North Dakota Fighting Hawks on Friday at the Human Performance Center.
Brianna Vega had a career-high 22 kills in the win.
STATISTICAL NOTES
Ehize Omoghibo added 14 kills to the offensive effort.
Lucie Pokorna had seven kills in nine attempts, 48 assists, and added five of the team's 10 service aces.
Sh'Diamond Holly had nine kills and
Trinity Jackson posted six.
FIRST SET
North Dakota only saw a lead after the first rally. The Privateers surged ahead with three consecutive points and built a lead as large as five points. The Fighting Hawks saved five set points to push to extra rallies, but New Orleans held on for the set. One of seven

SECOND SET
New Orleans began the set on a 4-0 spurt and never trailed. The Privateers hit .467 as a team with 18 kills to just four errors in 30 attempts. The closest North Dakota was after the beginning of the set was when they trailed 8-7.
THIRD SET
The third set provided a host of pendulum swings with 15 ties and nine lead changes. Neither side led by more than three points. New Orleans saved two set points, but the Fighting Hawks eventually closed the set in their favor on a Darian Chwialkowski kill.
FOURTH SET
An even keel set early on was broken on Vega's serve. With the Privateers leading 12-10, Vega provided back-to-back service aces. The Privateers eventually opened their advantage to 18-11. A brief North Dakota run closed the gap to four, but the Privateers kicked away again. Vega's 22
nd kill of the match put the cap on the win.
