Privateers Hit .338, Sweep Past Jackson State

JACKSON, Miss. – The New Orleans Privateers (6-5) came out strong, hitting at a .338 clip in a 3-0 win (25-19, 25-15, 25-19) over the Jackson State Tigers (3-9) on Tuesday evening at T.B. Ellis Gymnasium.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Brianna Vega racked up 13 kills and had just one error in 24 attempts. Sh'Diamond Holly had seven kills and was in on five blocks at the net. Lucie Pokorna had 25 assists and 11 digs. Chloe Hampton and Rhyan Rand had six and five kills respectively.
 
FIRST SET
Vega got the Privateers' first two points on kills, but the match was played evenly out of the gate. The score was tied at 12-12 when Rand notched a kill to put New Orleans back ahead. The Privateers steadily began to pull away as they scored six of the next eight points and won the set by six.
 
SECOND SET
The Privateers came out on fire in the second set, as they got out to a 7-1 advantage. The lead got as large as 11 and New Orleans never relented in pushing to a 2-0 lead. New Orleans hit .368 for the set and .338 for the match.
 
THIRD SET
The match finished with a flourish for New Orleans. A Jackson State run cut the Privateer lead from 15-9 down to 15-13, forcing a timeout. However, the Privateers were not to be denied of a sweep. Vega's 13th kill was the decider for the Privateers in the final set.
 
NEXT UP
The Privateers will hit the road for their final tournament before conference play. New Orleans will face Jacksonville State, Charleston Southern, and Charleston between Friday and Saturday.
