CHARLESTON, S.C. –
Ehize Omoghibo hit .619 in 21 attempts, but the New Orleans Privateers (6-6) fell 3-0 (25-16, 32-30, 25-20) to the Jacksonville State Gamecocks (5-5) on Friday afternoon at the TD Arena.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
Omoghibo had 14 kills and just one error in 21 attempts for the match.
Andrea Nava added 21 digs to pace the team in that category.
Rhyan Rand added nine kills.
Brianna Vega had nine kills, nine digs, and three of the team's five service aces.
Lucie Pokorna had 35 assists, eight digs, and four kills.
FIRST SET
Jacksonville State gained some early separation with an 8-4 lead. The match flow stabilized and the next 16 rallies were split evenly. However, the Gamecocks finished with a flourish, scoring a 9-4 run to close the set.
SECOND SET
New Orleans was taken to extra rallies in a wild set that saw 16 ties and seven lead changes. The Privateers then fended off three Gamecocks set points but could not repeat the feat on Jacksonville State's fourth try. The Privateers had 22 kills and hit .326 for the set.
THIRD SET
The Privateers had to rally from an early 4-0 deficit, which they did to tie the score at 7-7. Jacksonville State opened up a four-point lead again shortly afterward. New Orleans closed the gap to one at 19-18 on a
Trinity Jackson kill, but could not get on level terms. JSU was led in kills by Kaylie Milton with 11. Taylor Pribl was in on six of the team's 10 blocks.
NEXT UP
The non-conference slate closes with a pair of matches on Saturday against Charleston Southern (9 a.m.) and Charleston (6 p.m.).
