Jackson Nets Double-Double, Privateers Sweep Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss.Trinity Jackson recorded her first career double-double as the New Orleans Privateers (3-2) scored a 3-0 win (25-20, 25-18, 25-19) over the Southern Miss Golden Eagles (0-5) in their first match of the day at the Southern Miss Volleyball Classic.

STATISTICAL LEADERS
Jackson finished with 12 kills and 12 digs. She had six kills in her first 11 attempts to help pace the Privateers' fast start. Brianna Vega also had a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs. Ehize Omoghibo had eight kills and was in on five blocks. Andrea Nava had her second consecutive match of over 20 digs (23).

FIRST SET
An offense that saw three different players finish with at least four kills helped pace the Privateers through the opening set of the day. New Orleans also limited the Golden Eagles to a .103 attack percentage. After an early 6-0 run put the Privateers up 8-4, they never trailed for the remainder of the set.

SECOND SET
There wasn't much between the two sides early in the set. New Orleans led 11-10 when they went on what was the set deciding spurt. The Privateers rattled off six of the next seven points. Omoghibo had consecutive kills to help cap the set in New Orleans' favor.

THIRD SET
Southern Miss had a fierce rally in the middle of the set that closed the gap from 14-7 to 15-14. However, New Orleans regrouped to finish off the sweep. Two Lucie Pokorna aces created some separation on the scoreboard. Kills by four different Privateers and consecutive blocks late on in the set helped seal the victory.

NEXT UP
New Orleans will finish their trek through the Southern Miss Volleyball Classic with Arkansas State. The match is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
