NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (3-3) absorbed a quick start by the Alcorn State Lady Braves (0-4) and rallied back to a 66-62 win at the Lakefront Arena on Tuesday afternoon.
THE FINISH
After trailing by five inside of three minutes remaining, New Orleans went on a 7-0 spurt. The basket that gave the Privateers the lead was off a steal and a fast break layup from
Dionjhae Thomas to make the score 63-61.
Off a miss,
Mia Deck crashed in for a crucial offensive rebound which forced the Lady Braves to foul. On the inbound pass, Deck knocked down a triple to seal the second consecutive victory for the Privateers.
LEADING THE WAY
For the third consecutive game, Delgado set a new career high in points with 21 on 8-of-11 shooting. Deck contributed 16 points and Thomas also landed in double figures with 10. The Privateers bench outscored Alcorn State 32-12.
HOW WE GOT THERE
-The Lady Braves got off to an 8-2 start within the first four minutes of the contest. They eventually grew their lead to as large as 11 in the opening stanza.
-Alcorn State began their afternoon efficiently as they sunk 8-of-15 field goal attempts in the first 10 minutes.
-The second quarter started with a 6-0 run by New Orleans. The first six points came from transition baskets.
-At the half, New Orleans trailed 30-28. The Privateers forced 15 turnovers but also committed the same amount.
-New Orleans took their first lead of the afternoon on a Deck triple from the corner less than two minutes into the third quarter.
-Kirdis Clark led three in double figures for Alcorn State with 19 points. Deja Mitchell and Diamond Hall had 13 and 11 respectively.
-As a unit, the Privateers were 50% (11-of-22) from three-point range on the day, their best output in percentage and total makes on the season.
