Jay Rodgers Joins Men’s Hoops

NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans head coach Mark Slessinger rounded out the 2020 signing class with the addition of prep star Jay Rodgers. Rodgers spent the 2019-20 campaign at Winchendon Prep. The Pickerington, Ohio native averaged 24.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists last year and drained 81 percent of his free throws.

A 6-3 left-hander, he posted eight 30-point games and was named to the Hoop Hustle All-New England Third Team. He will have four years of eligibility for the Privateers.

FROM JAY RODGERS
"I'm excited to be joining the basketball program at New Orleans. I believe the coaching staff and the team will help support my development as a scholar-athlete."

FROM COACH SLESSINGER
"Closing our 2020 recruiting class with a player like Jay Rodgers is a big win for us. Jay is a strong scoring guard from a basketball rich area in Columbus, Ohio. We feel his ability to create and score will be a big asset."

ON HIS POSTGRADUATE YEAR
"Jay's year of postgraduate basketball at Winchendon school helped to prepare him for the next step. He played in the highly competitive NEPSAC against some of the best players in the county."

ON HIS BASKETBALL PEDIGREE
"Jay's father, Leon, was a great player at Northern Illinois and went on to have a very successful 16-year career overseas. That experience and knowledge are evident in Jay's game and he possesses some qualities you simply cannot teach."
