Women’s Basketball Knocked off on the Island by A&M-Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The New Orleans women's basketball program suffered a Southland Conference setback as the Privateers (3-6/0-3 SLC) lost the battle on the island against A&M-Corpus Christi (3-10/1-4), 57-49 at the Dugan Wellness Center on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams battled hard to open the game as the Islanders were able to take a slight 15-13 edge after one quarter of play.
- It was a very close second as well as A&M-Corpus Christi was able to extend its lead to 30-25.
- New Orleans won the third by a point to cut the deficient to four with just 10 minutes left to play.
- The Privateers were able to get it to as close as a four-point game with 4:01 left to play, but the Islanders were able to hold firm to collect the 57-49 victory.

GAME NOTES
- Mia Deck finished in double-digit scoring for the fifth time this season as the sophomore guard registered a team-high 11 points to go with a career-best four steals. She also added three rebounds and an assist.
- Zoe Cooper has recorded back-to-back career games as she finished with a new career high of nine points and seven rebounds.
- Mary Delgado set a new career best with five rebounds. She also chipped in four points and three assists.
- Jada Duncantell paced the offense with a team-best four assists to go with seven points.
- Dionjhae Thomas added eight points and two helpers.
- The Privateers have dropped the past four matchups against the Islanders.
 
NEXT UP
New Orleans will make the short trip to Thibodaux for a Southland showdown with Nicholls this Saturday, Jan. 23 at 2 PM CT at David R. Stopher Gymnasium.
