THIBODAUX, La. – The New Orleans women's basketball program dropped a hard-fought effort to host Nicholls, 67-56, in a Southland Conference battle at the David R. Stopher Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- New Orleans and Nicholls played a very even opening first as the Colonels was able to hold a 16-12 edge after the first quarter of play.
- The Privateers would then go on to win the second by a 17-16 margin to trail by just three points at the half.
- New Orleans won the third by a 16-14 edge as the two teams found themselves in a one-point game heading into the fourth.
- Nicholls turned out to be too much in the final frame as the Colonels won the quarter by a 21-11 margin to collect their fourth Southland victory of the season. 
GAME NOTES
- Playing in her hometown for the final time in a New Orleans uniform, senior 
Dionjhae Thomas had one of the best performances of her career as she set a new career high with 20 points and eight assists. It is the first time in 88 career games that the Thibodaux native broke the 20-point plateau. She also chipped in two steals.
- Sophomore guard 
Mia Deck was the only other Privateer to finish in double figures as she registered 12 points to go with an assist and a steal. It is the second straight game that the sharpshooter has posted a double-digit scoring output and sixth contest in double figures overall on the season.
- Senior 
Jada Duncantell led the Privateers with a team-high seven boards to go with four points, three assists and three steals.
- 
Zanaa Cordis was a perfect 3-of-3 from the field as she finished with six points and three rebounds.
- Sophomore guard 
Mary Delgado chipped in eight points along with three steals and three rebounds.
- It was a back and forth affair for much of the afternoon until Nicholls was able to pull away at the end of the game as the game featured 12 lead changes and seven ties.
- New Orleans scored 26 points in the paint and got 14 points off the bench.
- The Privateers also took advantage of their chances at the charity stripe as New Orleans hit at a clip of 81.8 percent (9-of-11).

The Privateers won't have to wait long to get back into action as New Orleans will host Northwestern State on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at the UNO Lakefront Arena in another Southland Conference clash. Tipoff for the contest is set for 7 PM CT.
