HATTIESBURG, Miss. –
Hannah Volpi had the first match of 30 digs by a Privateer since
Andrea Nava in Oct. 2018 but New Orleans fell just short to the Tulane Green Wave 25-18, 31-33, 25-23, 21-25, 15-11 on Saturday afternoon at the Wellness Center.
RECORD BREAKER
The match set a new mark for the Privateers. Their 18 total blocks were the most ever in a five-set match, eclipsing their 17 against Southeastern in Sept. 1996.
DECIDING SET
The Privateers got out to a 6-4 lead in the final set but Tulane executed a 5-1 run right after to take a two-point advantage of their own. The two sides split the next eight rallies to put the score at 13-11 in favor of Tulane. The Green Wave then ended the match with kills on consecutive rallies.
BALANCED ATTACK PACES PRIVATEERS
New Orleans had four Privateers reach double figures in kills, led by
Alexis Parrish who notched 18.
Kai Williams had 14 kills while
Shelby Pullins added 13.
Sh'Diamond Holly had 10 kills.
MARATHON SECOND SET
The Privateers converted on their fifth set point opportunity on a Tulane attack error. The set was tied 16 times and the lead changed hands seven times. For the match their were 43 total ties and 16 lead changes.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Lucie Pokorna had her second match of 50 or more assists in her career with 51.
Sheilah Purcell debuted with 18 digs while
Samantha Gioiosa added 11.
Parrish led the way in blocks with nine total (two solo, seven assist). Pullins added eight total blocks while Holly finished with seven.
