Short-handed Women’s Basketball Suffers Southland Setback at Southeastern

HAMMOND, La. – A short-handed New Orleans women's basketball program, down multiple student-athletes and their head coach Keeshawn Davenport, suffered a Southland Conference setback, 73-53, to Louisiana foe Southeastern at the University Center on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Southeastern was able to jump out to an early lead and kept the strong momentum going throughout the first quarter as they recorded a dominant 24-10 edge after one.
- It was a much more even second but Southeastern was still able to add to its lead as they won the second by an 18-12 margin to take a 42-22 lead into the half.
- New Orleans won the third but were only able to cut Southeastern's lead by one as the Lady Lions went into the final frame up 56-37.
- It was another even quarter to close things out as Southeastern held a slight 17-16 edge to close out the 73-53 victory, the program's fourth so far of the season.
 
GAME NOTES
- Jada Duncantell led the way for the Privateers with a team-high 16 points, six rebounds and four assists. The contest was the senior's fifth double-digit scoring output of the season and the second straight in which she has done so. Duncantell has recorded no less than six rebounds over her last three games out of the point guard position.
- Dionjhae Thomas was second on the Privateers with 15 points. The senior added three steals and two assists. It is the seventh time this year that she has reached double-digits in scoring and the third consecutive game she has reached the plateau.
- Zoe Cooper was tied for the team-high in rebounds (six) and steals (3) as the freshman forward added three points.
- Cooper and Erin Randle each posted a block.
- Seven Privateer student-athletes scored in total.
- New Orleans scored 32 of its 53 points in the paint, which made up over 60 percent of its scoring output.
- With head coach Keeshawn Davenport out due to COVID-19 protocol, Wyketha Harrell stepped in and coached her first collegiate game at the helm of the Privateers.

The Privateers return to New Orleans for a showdown with Central Arkansas on Wednesday, Feb. 3. Tipoff for the Southland Conference contest is set for 7 PM CT at the UNO Lakefront Arena.
