NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers rallied back from a seven-point deficit in the opening set but they lost the match by a 3-1 score to the Northwestern State Lady Demons on Thursday evening at the Human Performance Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Northwestern State started the deciding set with three straight points, two of which came on Privateer errors. Northwestern State had just two attack errors and they had both blocks in the set to take their second conference win of the season.
The Privateers came back from a 12-5 deficit sparked by three service aces from
Atira Jells in a four-rally stretch. New Orleans continued the uphill climb until they took a 20-19 lead on a
Rita Zecchin kill. The set closed out with two kills from
Alexis Parrish.
In the second set, New Orleans rolled off six straight points and had a 10-2 lead. The Privateers led for most of the set and had three tries at match point. However, blocks on back-to-back rallies extended the set and the Lady Demons took the next two points to finish the set in their favor and tie the match at 1-1.
New Orleans jumped to an early lead in the third set at 5-1 and had a 19-15 advantage off Jells' fourth service ace. The Lady Demons responded with six straight points though to take the lead and a tandem block by Jaylibeth Garcia-Rosa and Kate Idrogo finished off the set to give Northwestern State a 2-1 lead.
