LAKE CHARLES, La. – The New Orleans Privateers finished their road swing with a 3-0 loss to the McNeese Cowgirls on Saturday afternoon at the McNeese Rec Complex. The match closed a run of nine straight on the road.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers grabbed a lead in the middle of the set and were ahead 18-16 at one point. However, McNeese came back with five straight points to take the lead in the set for good. New Orleans had racked up four total blocks in the opening set.
McNeese started the second set much like they finished the first with the first three points and an early 6-2 lead. New Orleans briefly closed the gap to one but McNeese stretched the lead out again behind a defense that had five total blocks in the set.
In the third set, it was a close battle all the way until the end. New Orleans had a couple of mini runs during the set and had the lead on five different occasions.
The Cowgirls rallied back from down as many as four in the set though and capped it off when match point was won an attack error.
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Sh'Diamond Holly had 11 kills and a .526 hitting percentage to lead the offense. Holly also had three block assists.
Trinity Jackson finished with seven kills and five digs.
Sheilah Purcell had a team best 15 digs on the match.
Tara Goolsby and
Maxine Walsh were each in on three blocks at the net.
Lucie Pokorna finished with 20 assists.
NEXT UP
The Privateers return home for the first time since Hurricane Ida struck. New Orleans will face UIW on Thursday, Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m.
