Privateers Fall to UIW in Return to Human Performance Center

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers were home for the first time in 41 days in front of a loud crowd but the UIW Cardinals prevailed by a 3-0 score line on Thursday evening at the Human Performance Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Using a strong attack from the middle early, the Cardinals raced out to a 13-3 lead. New Orleans came roaring back as they cut the deficit in half on the strength of a 6-1 run. The set was played evenly over the last 24 points but the Cardinals had a .462 attack percentage in the opening set.
 
The Privateers had an early lead at 7-5 but the Cardinals had a run of four straight points with kills from three different players and a service ace. The rest of the set was back and forth and the Cardinals had set point at a 24-21 lead.
 
Two straight points by the Privateers cut the UIW advantage to 24-23 but a service error finished the set for the Cardinals.
 
UIW stretched out a narrow 7-5 early advantage with eight points over the next 10 rallies. The Cardinals closed out with a .400 hitting percentage over the final set to take home their second road win of the season.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Alexis Parrish led the way with 12 kills and a .429 hitting percentage. Trinity Jackson landed just shy of a double-double with nine kills and nine digs. Kai Williams had six kills and was in on three blocks at the net.
 
Sheilah Purcell landed in double figures with 12 digs while Maite Solabarrieta had 28 assists. Sh'Diamond Holly had both service aces for the Privateers.
 
NEXT UP
New Orleans will host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday afternoon. The match is set for a 1 p.m. start.
