HAMMOND, La. – The New Orleans Privateers snagged the first set but Southeastern rallied to take the next three sets and the match 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at the University Center. The Lady Lions had 16 more kills than the Privateers and recorded 12 blocks at the net during the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
New Orleans came out firing and took advantage of some early errors from Southeastern. 12 attack errors helped set the tone while New Orleans recorded all three blocks in the opening set.
Sh'Diamond Holly was perfect with five kills in as many attempts to help New Orleans vault to an early 1-0 lead.
The Lady Lions took over from there. They established early leads in all of the next three sets and they only trailed once for the remainder of the match. That came when the Privateers notched the first point of the third set.
New Orleans came back from down 15-8 at one point in the third set and closed the gap to just three points at 21-18. The Lady Lions staved off the comeback though, aided by kills from Cicily Hidalgo and Hannah Brewer to score the next four points and the set.
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Trinity Jackson had 13 kills and 13 digs for her second consecutive double-double and her fifth of the season. Holly finished with 10 kills and four total blocks.
Kai Williams had six kills and
Tara Goolsby finished with 32 assists.
The Privateers had 77 digs as a team. Leading the way individually was
Sheilah Purcell with 29.
Rita Zecchin also reached double figures in digs with 11.

The Privateers will travel to San Antonio to take on UIW on Thursday, Oct. 28. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
