NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers led at five different occasions of the opening set but were defeated Saturday by a 3-0 score at the hands of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders at the Human Performance Center.
OPENING SET
The Privateers and Islanders battled through a very tight opening set that saw 10 ties and seven lead changes. New Orleans kept the Islanders to just a .170 attack percentage. However, a run of five straight points from down 20-18 put the road side in position to take the opening set.
New Orleans got back within one at 24-23, but the Islanders finished the set in their favor with a Kyndal Payne kill.
MATCH FLOW
The rest of the match passed with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi leading most of it. The Islanders hit .567 in the second set, which they took 25-13. Both teams hit over .400 in the third set but the Islanders got out to a 14-8 lead and did not look back.
New Orleans had 16 kills to three errors for a .433 attack percentage in the third and final set. The Islanders hit .462 as a unit.
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Trinity Jackson had seven kills in the first set and 14 for the match. Jackson hit at a .379 clip and added six digs.
Atira Jells finished with seven kills on 16 attempts.
Maite Solabarrieta (17 assists) and
Tara Goolsby (10 assists) split the setter duties.
Sh'Diamond Holly was in on three of the team's four blocks.
Sheilah Purcell finished with a team best 11 digs.
NEXT UP
The Privateers are at home on Thursday, Oct. 14 when they take on Northwestern State. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
