NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (2-3, 2-1) battled valiantly and raced out to a sizable early first set lead but were defeated 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-18) by the Sam Houston Bearkats on Thursday at the Human Performance Center. It was the first home match in 453 days dating back to Nov. 16, 2019.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
Kai Williams led the offense with nine kills and added five digs along with three block assists. She also added three service aces.
Trinity Jackson finished with eight kills and three digs while
Alexis Parrish finished with six kills.
Lucie Pokorna had 27 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Privateers raced out to a 10-4 lead on the strength of a fast starting block. New Orleans earned three blocks at the net in the first 14 rallies.
-The Bearkats slowly rallied back and took their first lead of the set at 18-17. After that, they scored five of the next six points.
-Both sides were trading points early in the second set. The Bearkats slowly edged away to a 20-14 lead but New Orleans scored the next three to slice the lead in half. However, Sam Houston ended the set with three kills and two service aces.
-New Orleans played from narrowly behind for most of the set but they were within three after a Parrish kill. However, Sam Houston went on a 7-2 blitz to finish the set and the match.
-Ashley Lewis led the Bearkats in kills with 13. Breanne Chausse finished with 10 kills. Hannah Baker led the Bearkats in digs with 15.
