NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (2-4, 2-2) battled through three close sets on the scoreboard but were defeated 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-21) by the HBU Huskies (3-5, 2-0) on Saturday at the Human Performance Center.
INSIDE THE STATS
Atira Jells had nine kills to pace the Privateer attack on the day.
Shelby Pullins finished with six kills and
Sh'Diamond Holly had five kills.
Lucie Pokorna added 30 assists and six digs.
Hannah Volpi (13) and
Trinity Jackson (10) both reached double figures in digs. Holly and
Kai Williams were each in on two blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers got out to an early 9-6 lead in the first set but HBU rattled off the next five points to surge ahead. New Orleans responded with a 4-0 spurt to jump ahead 13-11 but the Huskies jumped ahead for good after they scored on the next four points.
The second set saw a back-and-forth affair land in the Privateers' favor when they led 22-21 late on after kills from Jells and
Chloe Hampton. The Huskies closed strong in the set though led by Anna Gadway's three kills to take the set.
New Orleans fell behind 17-12 in the third set but they climbed the hill to level the score at 21-21 on a service ace by Holly. However, the Huskies scored the next four points and earned three blocks at the net in the process.

The Privateers take to the road to face Stephen F. Austin on Thursday, Feb. 25. The match is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start.
