THIBODAUX, La. – The New Orleans Privateers swept their way through Thibodaux in a 3-0 win (25-21, 25-19, 25-18) over the Nicholls Colonels (0-1, 0-1) on Thursday at Stopher Gym to improve to 2-0 on the Southland schedule.
The Privateers (2-2, 2-0) hit a stellar .424 in the first set and finished with a .350 attack percentage for the match.
LEADING THE WAY
Atira Jells had a stellar night with 13 kills in 20 attempts and a .500 attack percentage.
Kai Williams followed with nine kills and two solo blocks while
Trinity Jackson landed just shy of a double-double with nine kills and 13 digs.
Alexis Parrish had seven kills,
Lucie Pokorna finished with six, and
Shelby Pullins had five.
Pokorna added 39 assists and six digs.
Hannah Volpi finished with a team best 14 digs and Pullins was in on four blocks (two solo, two assist).
NOTABLES
-The Privateers had 17 kills to just three errors in 33 attempts during the opening set. New Orleans used a 4-0 run to spurt to a 12-9 advantage and never relinquished the lead after that.
-Pokorna now stands at 1,179 career assists after her performance in the win.
-There were 16 ties and eight lead changes throughout the match. New Orleans never trailed during the second set.
-In the third set, New Orleans finished with a 5-2 run to seal the deal. Jells had three kills in that stretch, Williams had one, and Pokorna added one.
