NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans volleyball (2-8, 2-6 Southland) forced a fourth set and gave Abilene Christian (6-4, 5-3 Southland) a run for its money in the fourth in a 3-1 (25-14, 25-19, 22-25, 26-24) setback Saturday in the Human Performance Center.
Atira Jells hit .379 and registered 16 kills and
Hannah Volpi posted a double-double with 45 assists and 13 digs.
Chloe Hampton added 13 kills and
Shelby Pullins finished with 10 kills and four blocks.
SET ONE
The Privateers knotted the opening set at 7-all following a service error by Kate Blasingame. Abilene Christian went on to take the set 25-14.
SET TWO
UNO took a 5-4 lead on back-to-back kills by Hampton. Moments later, UNO extended its lead 14-12 following
Alexis Parish's kill. However, the Wildcats took a 2-0 lead with a 25-19 edge.
SET THREE
Back-to-back Jells kills and an ace by Parrish put the Privateers in front 6-4. Down 11-10 later in the set,
Nia St. Cyr consecutive kills followed by Hampton's kill regained the lead for the home squad, a lead that was further extended (19-14) on Jells' pair of kills and
Trinity Jackson's point.
UNO scored the fill four points of the set to take it 22-25, a run that included two aces by Jackson.
SET FOUR
The momentum continued to be in the favor of UNO with St. Cyr and Pullins teaming on a block, Hampton's kill, and Volpi's ace beginning the fourth set.
Two blocks added to the UNO lead (7-4), but Abilene Christian stormed back to take a 15-13 edge.
Seven consecutive points for the Privateers looked to shift the set as UNO led 20-15, but ACU escaped with the 26-24 lead.
