NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (2-9, 2-7) battled back from down two sets but were defeated 3-1 by the UIW Cardinals (4-7, 4-5) on Thursday evening at the Human Performance Center.

Shelby Pullins had an efficient night with 12 kills and just one error in 23 attempts. Pullins was also in on five of the eight blocks at the net.
Atira Jells also recorded double digits in kills with 10.
Trinity Jackson added seven kills and 10 digs.
Sheilah Purcell led the team in digs with 15.
Hannah Volpi had 36 assists and three of the Privateers' seven service aces. New Orleans had eight blocks to UIW's five.
HOW IT HAPPENED
There were 28 ties and 14 lead changes in the match. Half of those lead changes came in the opening set. The Cardinals used a 7-1 run late on in the set to gain a 21-15 lead. UIW held off a belated Privateer rally to take the opening set.
New Orleans was up 22-17 late in the second set but the Cardinals rallied to have set point on their hands at 24-23. Jells' kill tied the score and sent it to extra rallies. The Privateers went ahead briefly at 25-24. Then UIW scored the next three points to take the second set and a 2-0 lead.
The Privateers dominated the third set 25-15. They never trailed and the score was only tied twice early. The Privateers hit .417 as a team in the set while they held UIW to a .136 attack percentage.
UIW battled back from an early 11-6 deficit to take the set and the match. Bethany Clapp scored three consecutive points down the stretch, all on kills to help seal the match for the visitors.

The Privateers will face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday. First serve is set for 12 p.m. at the Human Performance Center.
