NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers extended the Southeastern Lady Lions to the max but fell on the short end of a 3-2 decision on Wednesday evening at the Human Performance Center in the regular season home finale.
SENIORS HONORED
Before the match,
Shelby Pullins and
Chloe Hampton were honored for their contributions to the program. Both got the start in the opening set. Pullins entered the night tied for sixth in career blocks per set in program history. Hampton played 56 sets and registered 95 kills coming into the night.
FINAL SET
The Lady Lions built an early 4-0 cushion which brough about a timeout. New Orleans scored five of the next seven points to trim the Southeastern margin to 6-5. The Lady Lions went on to rattle off the next five points in their favor which gave them the separation needed to finish the match and move to 9-2 in conference play.
HOW WE GOT THERE
The Privateers' defense dominated in the second and fourth set. New Orleans held Southeastern to an attack percentage under .100 in each of those sets. Down 2-1, the Privateers built a 19-9 lead in the fourth set. Three blocks and a balanced attack helped set the stage for New Orleans pushing to their second five-set match of the season.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Atira Jells led all Privateers with 14 kills and a .345 attack percentage. Jells was also in on four blocks at the net.
Sh'Diamond Holly notched 12 kills and six total blocks while
Trinity Jackson had eight kills and eight digs. Pullins had six kills and three total blocks.
Hannah Volpi had 38 assists, seven digs and was in on two blocks.
Sheilah Purcell led the way in digs with 18.
Kai Williams finished with seven kills, six digs and three blocks.
NEXT UP
The regular season closes for the Privateers on Thursday when they travel to Northwestern State. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
