RIVERSIDE, Calif. –
Lucie Pokorna vaulted into tenth place on the program's all-time assists list but the New Orleans Privateers suffered a 3-0 defeat to the California Baptist Lancers on Friday evening at Van Dyne Gym.
THE MOMENT
Pokorna's third assist of the opening set on a
Rita Zecchin kill put the Czech Republic native into tenth on the all-time list, passing Leslie Wahle. For the match, Pokorna had 16 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams hit well with the Privateers registering a .300 attack percentage. Meanwhile, the Lancers hit at a .324 clip. Three Privateers had four kills in the opening set (Jackson, Zecchin, Goolsby) but CBU finished the set strong with a 9-4 run.
The second set was tied at every point from one to seven. That's when the Lancers created a little separation with a 7-3 run to grab a 14-10 lead. The Privateers hung around but were not able to get closer than within two points for the remainder of the set.
New Orleans jumped ahead in the early portion of the third set and led by as many as three when they gained an 11-8 advantage. However, the Lancers dealt the most decisive blow of the match by scoring 11 of the next 12 points.
Four service aces were a part of that Lancers run and they had 12 service aces for the match. California Baptist hit over .300 for each of the first two sets.
