HOUSTON, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers led for most of the opening set but could not hold an early advantage on their way to a 3-0 loss against the HBU Huskies on Thursday evening at Sharp Gym.
HOW IT HAPPENED
New Orleans built up an early 13-6 lead on a balanced offense that saw kills from five different Privateers in that stretch. However, a run of four straight points helped the Huskies tie the set at 15-15.
Though HBU did not see their first lead of the match until 21-20 in the opening set, they took that momentum and scored four of the next six points to win the first set 25-22.
New Orleans climbed back from an early deficit and a 4-0 mini run in the middle of the set pushed the Privateers ahead 16-14. However, the Huskies struck back with a 9-1 run of their own to put the second set away and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set saw a couple of lineup changes and the Privateers scored the first three points of the set. Once HBU gained the lead at 5-4, they did not trail for the remainder of the match. Five straight points added to a 14-12 lead helped seal the deal for the Huskies who went to 2-0 in conference play.
