NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers got a season-high 19 points from
Jomyra Mathis but were defeated 69-45 in their return home against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Thursday at the Lakefront Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers fell behind early as the Islanders shot 55.2 percent from the field in the first half. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi also forced 15 New Orleans turnovers and produced 10 points off those turnovers. The Islanders led for the entirety of the first half.
New Orleans forced 12 Islander turnovers but were only able to turn them into two points in the opening half. The Privateers went to the locker room trailing 39-16.
In the third quarter, New Orleans held the Islanders to single digits and outscored them 14-9. The Privateers held the road side to just 28.6 percent from the field.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Mathis surpassed her previous season-high of 17 points, which she last achieved at Ole Miss on Dec. 1.
DeArica Pryor got to the line nine times and finished with 14 points on the night. She also finished with seven steals.
Zanaa Cordis had six points and five rebounds in 17 minutes of play.
