NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers controlled the game throughout and shot 75 percent in the second quarter of a 78-57 victory over the UIW Cardinals on Saturday afternoon at the Lakefront Arena in the annual Play 4 Kay game.

Jomyra Mathis had 12 points and 10 assists on the game, becoming the first Privateer since 2018 to record double-digit assists in a contest.
Tiana Gipson and
Kyla Davis combined for 11 three-point field goals and 35 points.
DeArica Pryor finished with 13 points and eight assists on the day while
Nahja Scott contributed 11 points and seven rebounds. New Orleans had 21 assists to 12 turnovers and shot 54.5 percent from the field. The Privateers led throughout the contest after assuming the lead with less than six minutes left in the first quarter.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers dominated in the first half, jumping out to an 18-11 lead. The offense was even more crisp in the second quarter as New Orleans shot 75 percent from the field. The Privateers also drained five-of-seven triples.
Gipson and Davis both reached double figures in the first half alone with 12 and 11 points respectively. The Privateers also superbly valued the ball as they had 15 assists in the first half with only two turnovers.
The assist total was the highest by a Privateer squad since Nov. 2018 against Trinity Baptist. Their field goal percentage was also the highest of the season. Pryor played all 40 minutes for the second time this season.
