NEW ORLEANS – For the second time this season senior guard
Troy Green was named the Southland Men's Basketball Player of the Week by the league office on Monday afternoon.
The St. Rose native scored a season-best 29 points on 10-of-21 shooting and pulled down six boards on Thursday against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with 20 of those points coming during the second-half comeback. He was an efficient 8-of-12 from the floor with 18 points in Saturday's blowout of UIW and grabbed seven more rebounds in the process.
For the week Green averaged 23.5 points per contest while shooting 54.5% (18-of-33) from the floor, including 50% from beyond the arc (3-of-6). Already one of the best defensive rebounders in the Southland – Troy added 12 more defensive rebounds to run his season tally to 117.
Green is averaging 15.6 points per game – fourth in the Southland and is pulling down 6.1 boards per game – eighth in the Southland.
Now in his fifth season, Green has played the most games (142), made the second-most free throws (489), scored the third-most points (1,670), grabbed the third-most steals (172), and distributed the sixth-most assists (371) in school history.
It's the third time in his career Troy has been named the Southland Men's Basketball Player of the week.
