NEW ORLEANS – With the regular season winding down New Orleans men's and women's basketball travels to Hammond, and Natchitoches this week to take on Southeastern on Thursday evening and Northwestern State on Saturday afternoon.

On Saturday against McNeese (11-13, 6-5 Southland), the Privateer women (2-15, 1-9 Southland) rallied back from a double-digit deficit early in the game before taking the lead 31-30 with about six minutes to play in the first half. A 9-2 run by the Cowgirls to close the third quarter proved too much and the Privateers fell in a hard-fought contest 75-64.

For the second time this season Jomyra Mathis set a career-high in points with the first 20-point game of her career. Since returning to the starting lineup on Jan. 29, the Landry-Walker product has scored in double-figures in five of her last six games and is averaging 13.3 points per game. Sophomore Nahja Scott is averaging 10.5 points and 5.5 boards per game in her last four outings.

The Privateer women lead the all-time series with SLU 28-21, and are 12-12 in Hammond. They trail the all-time series with the Lady Demons 13-12 overall, and 6-5 in Natchitoches but have won six of the last seven against Northwestern State.

Mark Slessinger passed Ron Greene as the all-time wins leader at UNO with his 147th victory against McNeese on Saturday night. Derek St. Hilaire scored 27 points – his fifth game of 25 or more this season – while Tyson Jackson and Troy Green also finished with 14 and 11 points respectively as the Privateers (16-9, 9-1 Southland) beat McNeese (10-18, 4-7 Southland) 88-75.

St. Hilaire is now 11th in the NCAA in scoring at 20.8 points per game. UNO shot 37 free throws against McNeese – the sixth time they have shot 30 or more free throws in a game this season. New Orleans currently ranks 8th in the NCAA in free throw attempts with 602, and leads the Southland averaging 24.03 free throw attempts per game.

The Privateer men have won three in a row against Southeastern and lead the all-time series 17-8 with a 7-4 mark in Hammond. They hold a 12-9 advantage against Northwestern State, and are 4-4 in Natchitoches. Coach Slessinger is 9-8 against his former boss Mike McConathy.

Both games against Southeastern can be viewed on ESPN+, while the Northwestern State games can be viewed on NSUDemons.com at the links above. Jude Young will have the call of the women's games on UNOPrivateers.com/watch, and the men's games on NASH 106.1 FM. The doubleheader in Hammond is set to tipoff at 5:30 p.m. and the doubleheader in Natchitoches is set to tipoff at 1:00 p.m.
