Women's Tennis Defeated by Tulane

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team was in for a tough battle from the outset as they fell 4-0 to the Tulane Green Wave on Wednesday afternoon at the City Park Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers had a lead at flight one and were up a break with Salma Abdelrahim and Lina Hohnhold. However, Tulane won the other two matches to take the first point of the afternoon. A 6-2 win at flight two and a 6-3 victory at flight three gave Tulane the early lead.

Three matches in singles were carried to three sets but none of them finished up as the Green Wave secured the match at flight three, four and five with straight set victories.

Charlotte Russell scored a 6-2, 6-1 victory at flight four and was followed by Jiayun Zhu who won 6-1, 6-3 at flight five. Flight three saw a longer first set but Tulane's Kristen Borland prevailed on her way to a 7-5, 6-1 decision.

Hohnhold, Ank Vullings and Lea Alguacil all carried their matches into the third set against their respective opponents when Tulane clinched the match. All three matches had just finished the first game.

NEXT UP
The Privateers will face North Texas on Sunday, Mar. 27 at 12 p.m. at the University Tennis Center.
