Privateers' Rally Attempt Stymied in Loss to Southeastern

HAMMOND, La. – The New Orleans Privateers (19-14, 6-6) rallied from an early deficit but were held off in a 9-5 loss to the Southeastern Lions (16-20, 7-5) on Saturday afternoon at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

It marked the first time the Privateers were swept in a conference series since Mar. 2019 at UIW.

DECISIONS
Daniel Dugas threw 2.2 scoreless innings and struck out two batters in the win. Collin Horton did not retire a batter in three faced as he issued three walks. He took his first loss of the season (2-1).

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions loaded the bases on three walks to begin the game and set the stage for the first of three home runs. Preston Faulkner hit a line drive on the first pitch he saw that cleared the left field fence and gave the Lions a 4-0 early lead.

Evan Keller and Shea Thomas added solo home runs over the next two innings to extend the Lions' early advantage to 6-1.

The Privateers threatened a comeback when they pieced together four runs between the fourth and fifth. One of three Issac Williams singles scored the first run in the fourth. Kasten Furr and Travis Gober had RBI singles in that stretch as well as the Privateers cut the Southeastern lead to 6-5.

That was as close as they got for the remainder of the day. The Lions re-extended their lead when Thomas drove in a run on a single in the fifth. A two-run single past a drawn in infield by Rhett Rosevear pushed the Southeastern lead to four.

From there, Gage Trahan shut down the game as he pitched the last two innings. Trahan allowed a hit and a walk and struck out two batters.

INSIDE THE BOX
Williams and Jeissy De la Cruz each had three hits on the day. Gober went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. The Privateers collected 11 hits on the contest. Kyle Khachadourian threw 4.1 innings out of the pen.

NEXT UP
The Privateers will travel to Southern Miss on Wednesday, Apr. 20.
