HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The New Orleans Privateers raced out to an early lead but Southern Miss went ahead in the sixth inning and remained there to deal the Privateers a 10-5 defeat on Wednesday at Pete Taylor Park.
DECISIONS
Aubrey Gillentine (2-0) picked up the win as he was part of a bullpen that gave up just three hits over eight innings. Gillentine threw 1.1 scoreless frames.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers had things firmly in their corner early. Two singles set the stage for
Pearce Howard who hit a two-run double down the third base line to put the Privateers up early.
Jeissy De la Cruz added a sac fly to make the score 3-0.
The Golden Eagles used the long ball to erase that lead as Will McGillis and Carson Paetow both homered in the second to tie the game at 3-3.
New Orleans went back ahead in the fourth when
Amani Larry was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Anthony Herron Jr. had one of two infield singles to help extend the lead to 5-3.
Southern Miss responded with another homer in the sixth. Gabe Montenegro homered to right with two strikes and two outs to put the Golden Eagles ahead for good. A four-run inning on just one hit in the eighth helped solidify the result behind Dalton Rogers who earned his second save of the year.
INSIDE THE BOX
Beau Blanchard threw 4.1 innings and struck out three in his longest outing as a Privateer. Herron went 2-for-4 with an RBI and
Travis Gober extended his hitting streak to nine games with a first inning base hit.
