HOUSTON – The New Orleans Privateers (15-10, 2-3) grabbed a 3-0 lead at one point but could not hold off a late HBU rally as the Huskies (9-18, 3-2) came back for a 5-3 win on Saturday afternoon at Husky Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Brandon Mitchell was humming along as he shut out the Huskies offense through the first five innings. However, HBU had their first breakthrough in the sixth. Diego Davila singled and later stole second as he evaded a tag to get into scoring position.
The Huskies loaded the bases with no outs but Mitchell limited the damage to just one run off a Parker Edwards sac fly.
The bigger rally came in the seventh inning. After the first two got on with a walk and a single, the Huskies went to work. Austin Roccaforte battled back from down in the count and eventually lined a single into center that brought the Huskies within a run. A Sebastian Trinidad sac fly tied the score at 3-3.
With two outs, two more clutch hits came the way of the home side as Brennen Bales and Edwards both came up with RBI singles to push the Huskies in front. From there, Tyler Zarella pitched a scoreless eighth and Andrew Reitmeyer closed down proceedings for his sixth save of the year.
