NEW ORLEANS –
Pearce Howard became the new all-time hits leader in program history and the New Orleans Privateers (23-18, 9-9) scored a 6-2 win over the Nicholls Colonels (24-16, 11-7) on Sunday at Ray E. Didier Field.
ALONE AT THE TOP
Howard hit a single to right field that scored a first inning run in his first at-bat. That was the prelude to the moment when Howard bounced a single through the left side that vaulted him past Kevin McGann for first place on the program's all-time list. Howard went 3-for-5 on the day.
DECISIONS
Kyle Khachadourian picked up the win to move to 4-2 after scattering eight hits in five innings.
Jack Williams earned his first save of the year after shutting out the Colonels for four innings. Nick Heckman (1-4) took the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers got out to a two-run lead after their half of the first inning. After Howard singled in the first run,
Travis Gober followed two batters later with an RBI single of his own.
Nicholls responded with one in the bottom of the first but
Kyle Khachadourian settled into a rhythm after that and held the Colonels quiet over the next four innings. The offense went back to work in the fourth when they pounced for two runs.
An RBI double by
Miguel Useche just got Gober in as he beat a relay throw to the plate.
Andrew Guidry followed with a line drive single that scored Useche.
With the score 4-2 in the sixth, the Colonels loaded the bases with no outs. Williams came in out of the pen though and struck out Jayden Kay. Then Jaden Collura lined a ball right to
Anthony Herron Jr. who caught it and subsequently touched first to complete the double play and keep the Privateers ahead.
Williams allowed two baserunners for the duration of the contest as the Privateers added runs in the seventh on an RBI double by Herron and the ninth on a homer by
Amani Larry.
