Privateers Defeated by Southeastern, Will Play Lions Again Sunday

HAMMOND, La. – In a rain littered day that featured a couple of delays and stoppages, the Southeastern Lions staved off elimination at the hands of the New Orleans Privateers with a 25-4 victory on Saturday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

The two teams will play again on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the winner heading to Lake Charles next week for the championship series against McNeese.

DECISIONS
Beau Blanchard took his first loss of the season (1-1). The win went to Hunter O'Toole who threw 6.2 innings and struck out five batters to move to 3-4 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions waited out New Orleans pitching and scored the first five runs with just one hit in the mix. After two and a half innings the Lion lead was 8-0. That's when New Orleans got on the board and threatened to rally.

Pearce Howard hit a two-run homer that put New Orleans on the scoreboard. Miguel Useche then doubled and later scored in the third inning. After New Orleans put up a zero in the fourth on the mound thanks in part to a Max Dias assist, the Privateers were looking to cut the lead further.

However, after Anthony Herron Jr. got to second on a single and error, the Privateers could not bring him home.

From there, Southeastern exploded for five runs in the fifth and 12 more in the sixth to put the game well out of reach.

INSIDE THE BOX
Amani Larry hit his ninth homer of the year and went 2-for-3. Useche continued to stay hot as he went 3-for-3 with a piar of doubles. Howard finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Andrew Duran threw a scoreless inning on the mound.
