He remains among URI's all-time leaders in three-point percentage, assists and steals.
Murphy Sr. has also been a long-time assistant coach at the NCAA Div. I level with stints at Creighton, Rhode Island and Boston College.
HEAD COACH MARK SLESSINGER
"Adding a point guard the caliber of Preston was a huge win for our program in this offseason. Preston is a bit of a throwback who can get others involved or score on his own."
"Preston's pedigree is unmatched. He obviously comes from a great basketball family with his father playing and coaching at a high level but his time at St. Andrew's in Providence, Rhode Island should help him acclimate to the college level. Coach Mike Hart at St. Andrew's is one of the absolute best coaches in the country."
MICHAEL HART (St. Andrew's Head Coach)
"Preston Murphy is the ultimate team player. He was our captain and led us in many statistical categories while winning close to 70 games in his time at our school. We have retired his #3 jersey and I am excited about his future at New Orleans."
